NORTH AMERICAN T-28

NORTH AMERICAN T-28

Pike County Airport personnel had the opportunity to view and service four vintage military aircraft. On their way to the Oshkosh Wisconsin Air Show, four North American T-28 aircraft landed to refuel. The T-28 was a piston-engine military trainer aircraft used by the United States Air Force and United States Navy beginning in the 1950s. These particular aircraft dated between 1955-1956. One of the aircraft was purchased and rebuilt from the “airplane graveyard” located in Arizona. Another belonged at one time to NASA astronaut Gene Cernan. He had the distinction as the last person to walk on the moon. After refueling, the pilots relaxed and monitored a large storm system on radar which was located along their route to Wisconsin. After taking off, the airport personnel and neighbors were treated to their own personal air show. The aircraft circled the airport in formation and flew into the wild blue yonder. What a treat for a Friday afternoon!
